A new Frontiers Research Topic, "Producing and Analyzing Macro-Connectomes: Current State and Challenges" is open for abstracts submission.

The subject of this Topic is critical for understanding the circuitry, hence the functionality, of any vertebrate species nervous system. I think this Topic is timely, considering the results of more than 40 years of investigations of the vertebrate nervous system with axonal tracers. The advent of new techniques, the emergence of publicly accessible platforms that include either results of thousands of experiments or data annotated and collated from the published literature, and the development of novel statistical approaches are several other reasons for this Topic.

This Topic will include the specific challenges to construct, validate and interpret macro-connectomes, and how they are addressed. It also includes the current state of meso-connectomes construction, as well as modeling efforts derived from the existing macro-connectomes.
