In a recent posting on comp-neuro mail list, it was pointed out that dynamic continuity across scale is a necessary element for modeling higher cognitive functions. This view is a corollary of the integrative theory of cognition where the accompanying continuous dynamics yield integrable systems (Poznanski, 2002). However, what is known from the work on savants, proves that disintegration can bring about lower–level sensory information processing which occasionally manifests genius-like capabilities in humans at the expense of other cognitive functions such as conceptual thinking (Snyder, 2003). More to the point, the integration-disintegration of cognition substantiates that for a realistic cognitive model of the human psych to emerge requires a methodology that limits the discretization to the last phase in modeling. The Poznanski-Snyder principle of cognition renders all multiscale models outside the realm of human neuropsychological principles.
