applications from enthusiastic Greek and international junior scientists 
for a postdoctoral training program to be funded by the General 
Secretariat of Research and Technology of Greece

IMBB is a multidisciplinary biomedical research institute of the 
Foundation of Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH, www.forth.gr 
<http://www.forth.gr/>) in Heraklion (Crete). Research at IMBB is of the 
highest international standards, addresses a wide spectrum of problems 
in biology and medicine and is supported by state-of-the-art facilities 
and competitive national and international funding. IMBB has extensive 
interactions with the other Institutes of FORTH, with many academic 
departments in Greece and with research establishments around the world.

The research interests of the *CBL* group lie in the field of 
*/computational biology/* with a focus on the development and 
application of /in computo/ modelling techniques for the investigation 
of */neural/* and */gene/* functions.  Specifically, we develop 
computational methods and tools for (a) analyzing large-scale biological 
data (e.g. gene expression, DNA-protein and protein-protein interaction 
data etc) in order to infer and subsequently model biological networks 
and (b) modelling healthy and degenerated brain cells and neural 
networks in order to relate learning and memory capacity with 
biophysical and/or morphological properties. Ongoing projects include 
modelling of memory processes (information coding, fear memory 
allocation, working memory) in the hippocampus, amygdala and PFC. The 
Lab has access to an Electrophysiology facility at IMBB for conducting 
patch clamp recordings needed for the development/validation of models 
and testing of generated hypotheses.

Applicants must have a strong background in theoretical neuroscience 
preferably combined with wet-lab experience in electrophysiology, or a 
strong background in electrophysiology in the brain areas mentioned 
above and an interest in brain modelling. Applicants must have obtained 
their doctorate degree (PhD or equivalent) within the last 10 years. To
