Discovery Science 2009

3-5 October, Porto, Portugal

The 12th International Conference on Discovery Science will be held in
Porto, Portugal, on 3-5 October 2009, and will be collocated with ALT
2009, the Twentieth International Conference on Algorithmic Learning Theory.

*** Early Registration Deadline ***

The early registration deadline, for registrations with reduced fee is

    1 September 2009

*** Program ***

We are preparing an excellent program, with 5 invited talks, 2
tutorials, and presentations of contributed papers. The program
committee decided to accept 23 long papers (acceptance rate 25%) and 12
regular papers. The overall acceptance rate was 38%.

Besides the regular contributions, we are honoured to have invited talks by:

- Fernando C. N. Pereira, Univ. Pennsylvania, USA (DS & ALT)
  "Learning on the Web"

- Hector Geffner, Univ. Pompeu Fabra, Spain (DS)
  "Inference and Learning in Planning"

   Exploring the Power of Links"

- Sanjoy Dasgupta, Univ. California, USA (ALT)
  "The Two Faces of Active Learning"

  "Learning and Domain Adaptation"

DS09 will also host two high-quality tutorials on:

- "Computational Intelligence for Neuroscience"
  by Concha Bielza and Pedro Larranaga

- "Interestingness Measures for Knowledge Discovery"
  by Howard Hamilton and Fabrice Guillet

*** Venue ***

The conference venue is the Computer Science Department of the Faculty
of Science of the University of Porto, located inside an extremely
pleasant area side-by-side with the Botanic Garden.

On the conference web site you may also find all the travel and
accommodation information required for a safe (and cheap) trip to Porto.
