[Comp-neuro] modelling post-doc

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the cognitive
modelling of complex eye-movement data collected during the reading of
text. The post will involve some participation in the collecting of
data, but will principally be concerned with the modelling of the data
according to anatomical and cognitive constraints.

The position is attached to a project "Sources of Linguistic Control
over Eye Movements". The work is funded by the UK Economic and Social
Research Council (ESRC) as part of a Pan-European Programme involving
research groups in Edinburgh and Dundee, working in collaboration with
colleagues in Potsdam and Salzburg.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the day-to-day conduct
of the project in Edinburgh and will also work with the grant-holders
on the modelling and on the design and analysis of experimental
studies. He or she should ideally already possess a doctoral degree and
have a background in mathematical/statistical/computational modelling.
Competence in eye tracking and knowledge of the literature concerning
eye-movements and reading would be an advantage, but experience with
MATLAB is more important. The post is based in Edinburgh, but close
working relationships will be established with other members of the
Programme (in particular, in Dundee, but also in Potsdam and Salzburg).
The position is available now and is tenable until 31st August 2009
Informal enquires or requests for more information may be directed in
the first instance to Dr Richard Shillcock (rcs at inf.ed.ac.uk).
